Building a Brighter Future for Cats in Canyon County

For more than 50 years, Pet Haven has provided rescue, shelter, medical care, and second chances to cats and kittens throughout Canyon County. As Idaho’s oldest privately operated cat shelter, we have remained committed to serving some of the community’s most vulnerable animals— but the need for our services has grown beyond what our current building can support.

The Need

Our current facility has become overcrowded, outdated, and limiting for both the cats in our care and the people who work and volunteer tirelessly to help them. Each year, more cats arrive needing urgent medical attention, safe shelter, rehabilitation, and loving homes. While our team continues to do everything possible within our existing space, the building no longer reflects the level of care and humane environment we believe every cat deserves.

To meet this growing need, Pet Haven has purchased a new building located at:

3202 12th Avenue Road, Nampa, Idaho
(adjacent to D&B Supply)

This new facility is approximately twice the size of our current shelter and will allow us to create a modern, welcoming, cat-centered environment designed specifically around the health, safety, and wellbeing of the animals we serve.

Our Vision

Free Roaming Adoption Rooms

Instead of spending extended periods in kennels, adoptable cats will live in comfortable group rooms designed to reduce stress and improve wellbeing. Each room will feature enrichment opportunities, vertical space to climb, appropriate hiding places, and a safe place to interact with other cats and potential adopters.

Onsite Spay/Neuter Clinic

An onsite spay/neuter clinic will play an important role in addressing the cat overpopulation crisis Canyon County is facing. Every year, countless kittens are born without safe homes, placing enormous strain on shelters, rescues, and community resources. By expanding access to affordable spay/neuter services, Pet Haven can help prevent unwanted litters before they begin—reducing suffering, lowering shelter intake numbers, and creating a healthier future for cats in our community.

Community & Volunteer Space

The new facility will also provide room for volunteers, educational programming, and community engagement opportunities that strengthen the human-animal bond and support responsible pet ownership.

Dedicated Intake & Medical Areas

The new building will allow us to properly separate incoming cats needing medical care or quarantine from healthy adoptable cats. Dedicated intake, isolation, and rehabilitation spaces will help reduce disease transmission while improving outcomes for vulnerable animals.

Expanded Capacity

With more space and improved functionality, Pet Haven will be able to serve significantly more cats while creating healthier living conditions and more efficient care systems.

Improved Accessibility

The new location offers easier access, increased visibility, and significantly more parking for adopters, volunteers, and community members.

Why This Matters

Every day, Pet Haven sees the realities of pet overpopulation in Canyon County:

  • Kittens born outdoors with nowhere safe to go

  • Injured and sick stray cats needing urgent care

  • Cats surrendered during times of hardship

  • Shelters and rescues stretched beyond capacity

This project is about more than a building. It is about creating a space where cats can heal, thrive, and find loving homes in a compassionate, humane environment. It is about ensuring Pet Haven can continue showing up for the community for the next 50 years and beyond.
